PlainTally privacy policy

Last updated November 7, 2026

This policy covers the PlainTally Android app (“PlainTally”), which scans barcodes and QR codes into lists and saves them as CSV or XLSX files. In short: PlainTally does not collect, sell or share any data. It has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. The release app does not even have permission to use the internet.

Information the app handles

All of this stays on your phone, in the app's private storage. None of it is ever sent to the developer or anyone else.

Camera

PlainTally asks for the camera permission when you first tap Scan. The camera picture is read on your device by the built-in barcode reader (ML Kit, bundled inside the app) to find codes. Camera images are not saved or sent anywhere. If you scan from a photo, the photo you choose is read the same way and is not kept.

Files and sharing

Exports and backups leave the app only when you choose to save or share them, and only to the place or app you pick. PlainTally uses the system file picker for this, so it needs no storage permission.

Storage and deletion

Deleting a list or a row in the app deletes it from the app's database. Uninstalling the app removes all its data. Since we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

What we don't do

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
