What it does

  • Boosts volume by up to +30 dB, or turns it down by up to 10 dB.
  • Measures the file and sets the boost for you, targeting −16, −14, or −11 LUFS.
  • Uses a look-ahead limiter so loud moments do not crackle when the quiet parts come up.
  • Previews with the same processing the saved file will use. You can switch between Original and Edited.
  • Includes a 6-band equalizer (±15 dB) with presets: Voice clarity, Bass boost, Treble boost, Music, Podcast, Less harsh, Phone speaker, and Night. You can save your own presets.
  • Evens out loud and quiet parts (a compressor), cuts low rumble such as wind, hum, and handling noise, and can sum to mono when the sound only plays on one side.

Privacy and limits

There is no account, no ads, no analytics, and no internet permission. You pick files with Android’s own picker, so PlainLoud asks for no storage permission. New files go to Movies/PlainLoud or Music/PlainLoud. The original file is never changed.

Boosting cannot recover sound that was never recorded. A distant voice gets louder, and so does the background. If a video has several sound tracks, the first one is used. Leave PlainLoud open while it saves.
